I'm up a tree (hopefully its not too tall re printing my ws5.0 files (which I need for class notes here @ SIUC.)

For the last 15 -18? years I've packed a cannon bj-10e .. it's been a honey.  Today it seems to be on the fritz.  I have a cannon s750 that I use from most of my class prepration materials (windows  driven?/doesn't seem to accept ws5 dos files.)

[I'm assuming I can get the bj 10e repaired at ther cannon service shop  in Kirkland (we're near Silverdale here in wa).  Problem is that I can't get there for a week or so.]

I've exported a few files to wp11 with some success..printed them on the cannon s750.  I don't think the exporting solution (wp11 works better than wordxp pro) is where I want to go..but may, in the end, have to?#!

I've a new hp psc 1300 series (hp psc 2410xi) still in the box (don't have table space cleared yet.)  My guess is that it won't know what to do with ws5.0 printer comands?

P.S. I must have over 2k ws5.0 files (class preps,  field reports, stat tables) that I've jerry-riged with ws5.0  would like access even if I have to get another smalish printer I can pack with me overseas.

Any help will be appreciated.  ted

If you have another printer with a DOS driver, you should be able to hook it up and print your files from it. If you only have a winprinter or a printer hooked up to the USB port as an alternate, and you are on a Linux or OS2 system, the operating system should automatically redirect your output to the printer. So that from your point of view, it looks as though it's printing directly to the printer.

If you are on a Windows system and your alternate printers are only winprinters or hook up to the USB port, you will need a utility to redirect WordStar's output.

One utility that people use is called PrintFile. You can find it at the developers site -- http://www.lerup.com/printfile/descr.html -- there is also a link to it from the WordStar Users Group Community site at http://wordstar2.com/WordStar_Users under Web Links.

PrintFile is a free download. There are links to the two versions (one has both 16-bit and 32-bit versions, the other has only the 32-bit version) on the WUG Community site in the Downloads section. They are relatively small files and install easily.

I have a BJC70 for traveling, and it is also a honey. :)

Drivers for HP printers which should work with WS5 can be found on my Web Site.

deedee..thanks much for the quick turnaround. I'm assuming I can find replacement parts for my 10-e...but e-bay is listing 'your' BJC-70 which might be a fair replacement option.

I only use/ed the 10-e for black copy (ie no need for color.)  Having said that, e-bay is listing several BJC-70s.  It may be more cost-effective to 'replace' my 10-e.  deedee do you know if the BJC 70 will  accept ws5.0  without another driver?

Thanks again, ted

Phil  thanks for the HP-ws5 drive note.   I've gone to http://www.glinx.com/~grifwood/WordStar.html  can't seem to locate the information.  When you find time can you hand-carry me a bit further re locating the information on your site.

Thanks, ted

The drivers are found on the following page.  I would suggest trying the ones to which I have added Euro support.

You can get black-only cartridges for the BJC-70 as well as the color+black cartridges. They go in separate carriers. Since the black cartridge for the color+black carrier is small and I'm a writer, I primarily use the black-only cartridge/carrier as well. Mine came with DOS drivers on a 3.5" diskette. The manual lists BJ10e as one of the drivers that can be used for both BJ and LQ modes -- so that suggests the BJC-70 can use your current WordStar driver.

Good luck  :)
