Hi
I?m new here.
My name is Joe, and I?m very interested in very simply computer software and I search for a good text editor.
At first I?ve many questions to this editor:

I?ve different Windows - Systems on my PC, and my first question is whether WordStar runs on ALL this versions (I mean on Win 98, Win 2000 and Win XP) in this style (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ws7_xp.PNG ???
I don?t want a newer version of WordStar, I want this looking.

Can somebody help me ???

I have used WordStar 2000 on 98.  It does not run on XP, but I use an emulator (DOSBox), so that I can use it anyway.  I expect that DOSBox runs just fine on all three Windows OSs.

The DOSBox forums are at

Your screen shot appears to be of WordStar 6, but is tagged WordStar 7.  Either will run on Win98, Win200, WinXP.  Win98 (Windows  4.x) is the last operating system on which WS6 or WS7 works as designed.  With the advent of Windows 5, aka Win2000 and WinXP, function is reduced, although it can be installed.  With the latter two operating systems, one should use either the commercial Tame or the free DOSBox.

Printing is always an issue and I suggest using a Postscript driver to print to file and PS interpreter to print the file.

While WordStar is still a commercial product which one can buy with some searching, I would suggest trying Write&Set (www.writeandset.com).

Hi,

Yea i run Wordstar 6 on xp , with no problems also. :)

I have WS6 running on all versions of Windows.  Use Ws6 every day on Win2K and XPPro --less frequently on old Win9X computers.  Have been able to use it on Win7 Ultimate (not my preferred OS however).

I use several other DOS programs with WS6, inlcuding a quick and dirty file management program call DF.  Laplink 3.  FFF (a file finder), LCD (a directory changer) and run.com...also batch programs (have not been able to use other DOS programs and batch under Win7).

I've found the trick to running these programs under Win2K & XP is to keep WS and other dos programs on a fat32 partition -- WS6 will run on NTFS but won't be able to run some of the other dos programs from the WS menu.  And it helps to add directories to the System ||Environment || Path.  Win7 is hostile to Fat32, which is one of the (many) reasons I'm sticking with XP.

And yes I can cut and paste between WS6 and Win programs.  Also work on files across my network.

On new computers I repartition (I usually use 4 partitions) format C: Fat32 and install XP on F:

I put WS6 on C:\ws6.

On one or two (Dell notebook) computers I've had a problem with Fat32 on C, so I use a partitioning tool to shrink C, and then add a fat 32 partition for WS and other Dos programs -- as long as I make apprpriate changes in the Path, works fine.  (The Dell I'm using now has WS6 on G:)

There's no rehab for stupidity...............
