Hi Tom,

I have the program. It used to be in the Web site downloads, but I've had to rebuild from the ground up and I haven't yet got around to resolving broken links or the downloads section. I'll try to make it available to you by the end of the week.

Have you tried Star Exchange to go from RTF to WordStar?

General Discussion / Unable to install WS icon in W...
Last post by rur42 - March 10, 2014, 12:00:56 AM
I'm moving a couple of my computers from XP to Win7 32

I've tried several icons, but the traditional WS icons will not display in Win7 (32).

Running WS6 in a fat32 partition, work fine.  One glitch, have not been able to find an icon that works on the desktop and taskbar..  Have changed from hi resolution to low resolutions -- still no effect on icon.

The icons that work in XP display in the file manager, but will not display on the desktop-- that is will not display for the WS6 shortcut.

I was able to change the command prompt shortcut icon to the old MSDOS icon.

In the WS6 & ws6 shortcut properties box I can get the icon to change, but the "apply" button is dimmed out.

File Conversion / Convert Word to Worstar
Last post by rur42 - March 09, 2014, 11:50:19 PM
I want to do just the opposite of most -- I want to convert Word files to Wordstar.

I have a couple of workarounds -- save Word files as rtf, the copy and paste.  Or load Word in Wordperfect 8 and then save as WS6.  (works sometimes)

File Conversion / Inset .PIX to useable graphics...
Last post by stormyboy - February 14, 2014, 04:39:37 AM
Hello, everyone.  I have a lot of old clipart in the Inset .pix format.  I'm running Windows 7 x64 nowadays, so I can't use my old faithful Hijaak Pro anymore.  I remember seeing a PIX2PCX program once around here, and wondered if it is still available and if it would even run on x64.

Thanks for any help or ideas.  I've googled online a lot and have only found malware and programs that won't handle .pix.

I use Mike's wonderful WordStar Template for Word.  Isn't it terrific?

When trying the conversion I would start with selecting the latest versions first. If the results aren't very good, then try WS4.

By looking at the files WS5 and later may have a closing curly brace "}" near the start, which won't be there with WS4 and earlier. This isn't a scientific check, and may not apply in all cases - I'd need to dig out the file format documentation to remind myself of what should be there.

You are right that this site isn't visited as often these days. WordStar users are getting thinner on the ground as the years go by. Our main discussion now mainly goes through our associated Yahoo Group mailing list.

I hope this helps you.

General Discussion / Determining WordStar version
Last post by jadney - January 06, 2014, 07:05:11 PM
I have a number of files that I've recovered from my parent's computers that were all written in WordStar. With the help of this forum I think I've found how to convert them to Word, but it sounds like it would be helpful if I knew which version of WordStar they were written with. They were probably written under DOS and sometime between 1984 and 1994.

I can read the files with Windows Notepad. Is there any way to tell from this examination which version of WordStar this came from? Or is there a better way to examine them?

BTW, among my folks things, I found a complete, pristine WordStar 7.0 for DOS upgrade package. It contains all the manuals and twenty 5.25" floppy disks. Everything's is there and it appears to be untouched. I'll bet Dad never even installed it. I may have been the only person to have ever opened the box. I'm not interested in installing it, although that's a possibility. (The 5.25" floppys make that challenging, although I DO have the necessary drive, cable, and early PC)

Is this anything that one of you out there would want? (It's not clear to me that anyone visits this site anymore.)

Does anyone know if someone has produced a WordStar version for Android Tablets?  It seems like a natural, if you have an external keyboard!

File Conversion / WordStar program "Just Joking ...
Last post by Doccote - September 30, 2013, 06:07:00 PM
I recently upgraded to Windows Vista, MS Word, etc.  and I have a large file of "Jokes" and "Quotes" which are 2 WordStar small programs I have been using for over ten years in MS Word.  Serial number of "Jokes" is 34506733 if that helps you.  When I try to load the program into Vista it won't accept it.  I need help and please make it very simple as I am over 80 and have forgotten most of my computer knowledge.  Vista is a challenge for me......LOL  Thank you very much.  Dick Cote
