Title: WordStar for DOS Clones
Post by: Forum Admin on May 05, 2007, 12:47:37 AM
Out of general interest, has anyone used WordStar for DOS clones - programs that claim to be WordStar compatable or WordStar-like in look, function, and or file formats.

If you have, how about listing them with a note about how close to WordStar they were. For each program listed, should anyone want to add comments, we can open another thread so we keep one for a list of programs, and then seperate discussions about each of them.

Before I found DOSBox, I tried many programs that purported to be like WordStar.  They were all disappointments.

I use WordStar as a programming editor, and I do not need any features having to do with formatting, printing, and spelling checking.  Nonetheless, these workalikes did not work for me.  With some, the only thing that they appeared to have in common with WordStar was that they used some of the same keystrokes.

Sincerely,

I've seen something called "WordTsar" that's in alpha at the moment. The guy writing it -- for 64-bit Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu, no less -- has been using it himself, and adding features only as he needs them, so it's slow going, but it's still worth a look.
